Data architecture

Definition

Data architecture is the blueprint that defines how data is managed (stored, organized, integrated, and accessed) within an organization.

Data architecture is identifying the data needs of the enterprise (regardless of structure), and designing and maintaining the master blueprints to meet those needs.

Other definitions of data architecture:

  • The blueprint for managing data assets by aligning with organizational strategy.
  • The description of the structure of an organization’s logical and physical data assets and data management resources.
  • A framework for managing data.

Purpose

The purpose of data architecture is to establish strategic data requirements and designs to meet those requirements.
